5 simple ideas of how to keep your home warm

If budget wasnt an option then insulating walls and roofs and upgrading old boilers would be top of my list, but since these can take time and cost thousands lets explore 5 simple ideas of keeping your home warm during the cold spell. Heating homes accounts for over 70% of your household energy consumption, so its beneficial to look at ways of reducing this whilst also cutting your energy bills and helping the environment by reducing your carbon footprint too.


1. Draught Excluder tape

Probably one of the cheapest items to buy and can be installed by anyone with no DIY experience. Simple work out the areas around your doors and windows that are letting the cols air in and simply cut a piece with scissors, peel back the sticky tape and stick to the area in question. No glue or tools required.


2. Turning down the thermstat

Are you aware that by turning down your thermostat by just 1 degree can save you as much as 10% of your heating bill.


3. Use curtains

Use blackout curtains at night to keep the warm air from escaping. Curtains are relatively cheap to purchase these days especially with all the online stores available. Just remember to open the curtains before leaving home to ensure any natural daylight comes into your home.


4. Radiator panels

Again cheap and easy to install and reflects heat back into your home.


5. Thermostatic valves

Research has shown by using thermostatic valves or TRVs' as they are known can reduce your energy bills by as much as 40% as they allow you to control the temperature in each individual room.
